What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness teaches us to focus our attention on what is happening in the here and now, rather than thinking about what has happened in the past or worry about future events. Mindfulness is not about having only positive thoughts good feelings. It is about recognising our thoughts without judgment and accepting that thoughts are just thoughts and not accept every thought we have as facts.

Mindfulness has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. In addition, research has demonstrated that people who practice mindful eating lose more weight than people who do not.

Take your time with this module and bring in mindful eating practices into your life. But also look at doing mindfulness exercises for your general wellbeing.

Here is a short but powerful mindfulness exercise. Try and do it a couple of times a week. Once you are used to taking a few minutes for yourself to do mindfulness you might start looking for mindfulness exercises that are a bit longer.
